African Penguins are in trouble, potentially becoming functionally extinct by 2035. Textile artist Janine Heschl has organised an online auction to support the work of The Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) in rescuing, rehabilitating and protecting coastal birds and I will be participating.
Each participating artist will contribute one artwork, this can be any media and subject, although penguin related art is encouraged!
The auction will be hosted on Instagram, running from Tuesday 22nd April until Sunday 26th.
I have started sketching and designing my artwork, it will be a hand embroidered piece stitched onto silk. I've been playing around with composition in Photoshop and I think I have decided on the layout (see accompanying image). The next step is to paint the background and then start selecting and positioning the fabric ready for stitching. My aim is to provide regular updates on this Blog and Instagram, I hope you'll follow along!
