"Colour Rhythms" The 2024/25 Embroiderers' Guild Members' Challenge, Winning a Prize

The Members' Challenge is an annual event run by the Embroiderers' Guild.  Members are asked to consider their response to a different brief each year.   For 2024/25 the theme was Colour and Rhythm, with members encouraged to take an exploratory journey and think about new ways of looking at the world around them.

My entry was inspired by the photography of Edward Muybridge which captured stages of locomotion. A Kingfisher, chosen for it's vibrant colours was my subject, stitched onto black organza using delicate fabric pieces and tiny seed stitches in silk thread to build up areas of colour and texture.

I was delighted to win one of the awards, the Jane Lemon Award for Drama and Creativity!  My kingfishers will now go on a mini tour with the Embroiderers' Guild to the Knitting & Stitching Shows followed by the Fashion & Embroidery Show at the NEC in 2026.
